Required Documentation for Registration

Medication Aides are permitted by Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) to administer medications to residents in:

  • Nursing facilities,
  • Intermediate care facilities for individuals with an intellectual disability or related conditions
  • Correctional institutions
  • Assisted living (personal care) facilities


Training is 9 weeks long and includes clin

Medication Aides are permitted by Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) to administer medications to residents in:

  • Nursing facilities,
  • Intermediate care facilities for individuals with an intellectual disability or related conditions
  • Correctional institutions
  • Assisted living (personal care) facilities


Training is 9 weeks long and includes clinical rotation


Total tuition is $1000 (includes books and supplies)


Payment plans are available. We currently  do not offer federal grants or scholarships. Students are encouraged to contact local the Workforce Solutions office for eligible educational funding.

  1. Valid Government Issued ID or Driver License and Social Security Card
  2. Copy of High School diploma, transcript or GED Certificate
  3. Submit Form 5500-MA, Medication Aide Program Verification of Student Eligibility (notarized)
  4. Submit Form 5523-MA Experience Documentation Report Form 5523 signed by employer (notarized) https://www.hhs.texas.gov/bu

Requirements to become a medication?

  • Read, write, speak and understand English
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a certified nurse aide
  • Be free of communicable diseases, and in suitable physical and emotional health to safely administer medications
  • Be a high school graduate or have a GED
  • Listed on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry in active status 
  • Not li

Requirements to become a medication?

  • Read, write, speak and understand English
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a certified nurse aide
  • Be free of communicable diseases, and in suitable physical and emotional health to safely administer medications
  • Be a high school graduate or have a GED
  • Listed on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry in active status 
  • Not listed on the Employee Misconduct Registry (EMR)
  • Employed as certified nurse aide in a facility licensed under Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 242 on the class start date OR employed on the class start date as non-licensed direct care staff in a facility licensed under Chapter 247; a state-supported living center or ICF/IID and have 90 days previous employment in the year preceding the class start date.

What are the class days and times?

  • Classes are Monday-Thursday from 6pm-10pm for 9 weeks.  Clinical rotation date and times vary.

How long is the class?                     

  • The class is 8 weeks in length

How much is the state examination fee?

  • Student will be responsible for the State Exam Fee of $25
